- Asana Level 1
-
This unit of study is an introduction to the basic principles and practices of yoga asanas (postures). Asanas can exert a powerful effect upon the body and the mind and therefore it’s important for a yoga teacher to be highly competent in their knowledge of the effects and contraindications of asanas and be skilled at assessing student needs and select appropriate practices. It is also designed to develop student’s own flexibility, strength and awareness while learning about the postures, and gain experience leading small portions of the class.
-
- Asana Level 2
-
This unit of study builds on the foundation of understanding of theories and techniques established in Asana Level 1. It explores more advanced and complex poses and their effects upon the body and the mind, and develops student’s capacities and skills in performing and teaching these asanas.
-
- Functional Yoga Assessment
-
This unity of study will teach participants a holistic approach to assessment by exploring the connection between form and function, respecting how muscular tensions and postural imbalances often carry emotional tensions in the client, and from that perspective, making basic assessments in postural imbalances, and basic adjustments.
-
- Integrative Teaching Practice - Yoga
-
- Pranayama & Meditation Level 1
-
This unit of study is an introduction to both pranayama and meditation practices, their benefits and function in yoga practice. It will train participants in the basic theory and techniques of pranayama and their use and effects. It will also train students in the basic principles and practices of relaxation and meditation and their integration into a yoga practice.
-
- Pranayama & Meditation Level 2
-
This unit of study builds on Pranayama and Meditation – Level 1. It will train participants in pranayama techniques commonly used in Hatha Yoga practices and how to incorporate the use of bandhas, kumbhaka and mudras. It will also train students in various meditation techniques and how to teach yoga nidra. Students will learn how to integrate both pranayama and meditation in their teaching of yoga classes.
-
- Yoga Ethics & Lifestyle Practices
-
This unit will expand on practices pertaining to the notion of psychology in yoga. It will provide a practical understanding of appropriate mental attitudes and ethical behaviours from the yoga sutras for a mental wellbeing and a positive lifestyle. It will look into an overview of the ‘mind’ from yogic and western psychological perspectives and role and relevance in mental wellbeing. It will also explore how these practices can be used as a guideline or code of professional conduct and ethics for yoga teachers.
-
- Yoga For Special Needs
-
This unit of study is an introduction to yoga for common health conditions and areas of special needs that a teacher may encounter in yoga classes. It aims to train students how to make a sound assessment of student needs and condition and to structure and tailor an appropriate personal practice in a one-on-one setting. It will also increase their awareness of the role of yoga in the health care industry, and on complementary scientific research into the efficacy of yoga practices.
-
- Yoga Philosophy
-
This unit of study provides a comprehensive overview of the history, tradition and philosophy of Yoga. Students will study the primary texts of Yoga, including Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga, Pradipika and Bhagavad Gita and learn how these may be synthesized into a yoga practice and lifestyle approach.
-
- Yoga Physiology
-
This unit of study provides a comprehensive exploration into yoga physiology and subtle energy systems, which differ greatly from western science. The teaching of yoga involves an integration of both eastern and western paradigms and requires the yoga teacher to carefully communicate this integration.
