Frequently Asked Questions

What is distance learning?Distance learning means you have undertaken a course externally with the support and guidance of a tutor. It is ideal if you cannot get to classes or are relocating overseas.

How does distance learning work?
Once you have enrolled you will be sent a distance learning pack through the post. This will include your workbook, course outline, tutor contact details and administration forms.

The workbook contains a weekly plan to guide you through the subject matter. This will give you an idea of how much time to spend on each lesson. After that it’s up to you how you want to plan your study schedule. The unit of study outline will also provide you with details on the unit of study assessment requirements.

What can I study via distance learning?
You can study a variety of lifestyle courses or a unit of study that’s part of a qualification. If a subject is offered via distance you will see a small envelope next to it’s listing in the Timetable. A full list of subjects offered via distance learning is listed in each Timetable and on the website.

How do I find out more information about the unit of study I want to study?
Refer to the Timetable listing for detailed information about the unit of study.

Can I study units of study face-to-face and via distance learning at the same time?
Yes. Our units of study are timetabled to offer you a range of delivery choices such as weekly intensives, distance learning and fast track Summer School courses. You can choose the one that suits you best for each module.

How long does it take to complete a distance learning unit of study?
You have one (1) Term to complete a unit of study in line with face to face classes. Students who fail to sit their exam in the specified time will receive a fail did not sit on their academic record.  Students are eligible to apply for an extension to be granted an additional one (1) term of study upon written application if you become seriously ill, are a victim of crime, suffer hardship or trauma.  Supporting documentation must accompany the written application.  An extension fee of $50.00 per unit of study upon approval of extension application.

When can I enrol?
You can enrol and start your distance learning unit of study at any time.

Can I study via distance learning if I’m living overseas?
Yes. You can study via distance learning if you live in Sydney, Perth, India or the North Pole – as long as there’s a post office!

How are distance units of study assessed?
Every subject is assessed by either an exam, assignment/s or combination of the two. Your unit of study outline will detail the assessment requirements.

Where and when are exams held?
Exams take place in week 12 of term. You can choose to sit your exam at the College or externally with an exam supervisor. In week 7 of term all distance students are emailed exam notification details and can choose what option is best for their schedule.

Will I have any support?
Yes. All units of study have a tutor available for weekly contact by phone and email. That way if you have any questions about the material you are studying, you have expert advice at hand.

Who do I ask if I have any administrative questions?
