Who Recognises My Qualifications?
The Diploma of Counselling is government accredited with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). The ASQA is the national regulator for Australia's vocational education and training. Graduates of this Diploma are eligible to receive membership with the Australian Association of Holistic and Transpersonal Counsellors Inc www.aahtc.org.au

This unit provides a foundation for applying the key theories of social learning and behaviour change in the context of clients with addiction and attachment issues. It will offer students the opportunity to explore, from an holistic perspective, their own experience of behaviourism and social learning and monitor a program of behaviour change.

This unit of study will explore the provision of support and care relating to loss, grief and bereavement, within an holistic counselling framework. It will explore current theory, assessment, the counseling relationship, counselling skills, possible risks and appropriate referral associated with grief and bereavement support. It will also explore the potential for growth and spiritual development that can be a part of the loss and grief process.

This unit describes the nature and the dimensions of the therapeutic relationship, the role of the counselor and the counselling process. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively in counseling practice. It identifies the components of the communication process which include advanced micro-skills, meta-skills and techniques. It also explores the barriers to effective communication and introduces other specialist counseling skills

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to support clients to move through the therapeutic process by clarifying goals, decision making and exploring possible course of action. Gerard Egan's helping model will be the framework for this process. The genogram will be used to understand the client within the context of their cultural and ancestral history. Advanced micro-skills will continue to be developed in this unit

- Counselling Skills In Practice A

In this unit students reflect and improve upon their counseling skills and approaches in full length counseling sessions. Students will receive feedback from peers and their supervisor. It involves intensive practice in developing the students’ ability to be client-centred and to work experientially and holistically in order to facilitate the client’s actual movement towards resolution of his/her issues. This unit eases the transition into videotaped work in Counselling Skills Practice B and Clinic.

- Counselling Skills In Practice B

In this unit students continue to reflect and improve upon their counselling skills and approaches whilst being videotaped. Students more comprehensively explore their emerging counselling style within the therapeutic relationship. Students receive feedback from peers and their supervisor and use the video recording to gain more self-awareness in their therapeutic role. This unit is designed to promote further development as a counsellor and to ensure student readiness for working with clients in the Nature Care College Clinic.

This unit provides an introduction to the application of key concepts and constructs underlying theories of personality and human development. It also provides an overview of current clinical counselling theories in the context of an integrative approach. Theorists include Freud, Maslow, Erikson, Rogers, Perls and Ellis.
