Diploma of Counselling
Study holistic counselling with Australia's most respected college, established in 1973 - located in Sydney. Our Counselling courses are unique, transformational and supportive; Your theoretical studies in counselling will be complimented by practical in-class role-plays and clinical training in counselling with external clients through our busy clinic located next door to the college campus.

Post Graduate Pathways:
Students may receive further qualifications in related fields of study at Nature Care College as credits are recieved for each module completed. Suggestions include the Certificate of Transformational Coaching, Diploma of Transpersonal Coaching, Meditation Facilitation Certificate and Diploma of Energetic Healing.

Who Recognises My Qualifications?
The Diploma of Counselling is fully Government accredited with VETAB (NSW Vocational Education & Training Accreditation Board). Graduates of this Diploma are eligible to receive membership with the Australian Association of Holistic and Transpersonal Counsellors Inc www.aahtc.org.au

This unit provides a foundation for applying the key theories of social learning and behaviour change in the context of clients with addiction and attachment issues. It will offer students the opportunity to explore, from an holistic perspective, their own experience of behaviourism and social learning and monitor a program of behaviour change.

This unit of study will explore the provision of support and care relating to loss, grief and bereavement, within an holistic counselling framework. It will explore current theory, assessment, the counseling relationship, counselling skills, possible risks and appropriate referral associated with grief and bereavement support. It will also explore the potential for growth and spiritual development that can be a part of the loss and grief process.

Learn the skills needed to identify the suitability of clients for holistic counselling services and how to develop, facilitate and monitor all aspects of case management. The important factors of mental health status, service suitability and referral are explored within a contemporary and holistic perspective.

This unit describes the nature and the dimensions of the therapeutic relationship, the role of the counselor and the counselling process. The key aspects to be explored are the counselor’s use of self, transference and counter transference, therapeutic boundaries and ethics. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively in counseling practice. It identifies the components of the communication process which include advanced micro-skills, meta-skills and techniques. It also explores the barriers to effective communication and introduces other specialist counseling skills

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to support clients to move through the therapeutic process by clarifying goals, decision making and exploring possible course of action. Gerard Egan's helping model will be the framework for this process. The genogram will be used to understand the client within the context of their cultural and ancestral history. Advanced micro-skills will continue to be developed in this unit

- Counselling Skills In Practice A

In this unit students reflect and improve upon their counseling skills and approaches in full length counseling sessions. Students will receive feedback from peers and their supervisor. It involves intensive practice in developing the students’ ability to be client-centred and to work experientially and holistically in order to facilitate the client’s actual movement towards resolution of his/her issues. This unit eases the transition into videotaped work in Counselling Skills Practice B and Clinic.

- Counselling Skills In Practice B

In this unit students continue to reflect and improve upon their counselling skills and approaches whilst being videotaped. Students more comprehensively explore their emerging counselling style within the therapeutic relationship. Students receive feedback from peers and their supervisor and use the video recording to gain more self-awareness in their therapeutic role. This unit is designed to promote further development as a counsellor and to ensure student readiness for working with clients in the Nature Care College Clinic.

This unit provides an introduction to the application of key concepts and constructs underlying theories of personality and human development. It also provides an overview of current clinical counselling theories in the context of an integrative approach. Theorists include Freud, Maslow, Erikson, Rogers, Perls and Ellis.

Students will learn to recognize and respond to individuals at risk, apply relevant interventions, identify ethical and legal responsibilities and facilitate case management - all within the context of a supportive and therapeutic relationship

This unit deals with cultural and linguistic awareness required to work effectively and holistically with clients from diverse backgrounds and experiences. It also covers the skills and knowledge required for delivering an ethical and legal counselling service which ensures the rights of all clients. The process of client referral is addressed.

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required by counselors to support a client's health and emotional well-being. It explores the holistic perspective of the client's personal world and their relationship with the community for support and resources.

This workshop incorporates two topics: Infection Control in Alternative Health Clinics and Occupational, Health and Safety (OHS).
This unit incorporates the skills and knowledge required to comply with infection control policies and procedures and contribute to OHS processes.

This unit offers knowledge and skills relating to a range of counselling therapies with emphasis on the transpersonal and body-centred approach. The experiential practices explored are to assist clients in dealing with a variety of life issues. Creative media is a key component of this unit.
