The popularity of Yoga in the community has grown significantly in recent years as a modality of health and well-being. With such growth comes the demand for suitably qualified and experienced teachers to guide people safely and effectively in their practice. The Diploma of Yoga Teaching is held on-campus in Sydney and will provide you with the practical skills and related scientific and historical knowledge required to become a competent and effective teacher and health care adviser in the field of Yoga. Yoga philosophy and ethics are an integral part of our program. The practice of Yoga not only promotes health and well-being of the body and mind, but also offers the opportunity to embrace Yoga as a way of life.
About the Yoga Teaching Course
Whilst firmly anchored in the classical heritage of Yoga, our Yoga Teacher Training course is based on a synthesis of the major paths and styles of Yoga, holding true the philosophical base for Yoga while encompassing many traditions within Yoga, along with an integration of contemporary well-being practices.
It is our aim to give participants a strong foundation on which to build their understanding, practice and teaching of Yoga. The course provides the graduate with the knowledge and skills required to practice as an effective teacher of Yoga.

Graduates of this program will be awarded the Diploma of Yoga Teaching
- Due to the involved nature of the course it is compulsory that course participants have had at least one year of regular yoga practice
- Prospective students are required to have an appointment with a Course Advisor prior to enrolling
- The appointment provides for you the opportunity to ask questions about the course and for us to help plan your studies effectively.
- Course Advisor appointments are available in person, over the phone and on College Open Days

This is one unit of study you can't do without! A fundamental component of all major modalities, this subject will teach you about the structure, general function and organisation of the human body.

- Apply First Aid

This unit presented by Training Aid Australia deals with recognising and responding to an emergency in the workplace. Apply Basic First Aid (HLTFA1A) & Apply first aid (HLTFA301B) are compulsory in all our professional training programs. The course includes both a home study theory component and practical assessment. All participants are required to complete the theory component prior to attending this course. The theory component can be completed in one of two ways:
- Option 1: Online Training - Once enrolled a login and password will be sent via email for the online component to be completed prior to the training date.
- Option 2: Workbook and Manual - Once enrolled the participant receives their workbook and training manual to be completed prior to the training date.

The teaching of Yoga involves the use of Asana (postures) which can exert a powerful effect upon the body and the mind. It is important for a Yoga teacher to be highly competent in the assessing of student needs and the selection of appropriate practices. This unit is highly experiential and transformational, and is designed to develop your own flexibility, strength and awareness as you learn the postures. Asana 1 provides a nurturing and supportive environment for all students to cultivate presence as teachers in front of others, regardless of experience or ability. You will gain experience leading small portions of the class.

- Functional Assessment

This unit of study will teach participants to perform basic functional assessments, determining where postural imbalances arise in clients, which muscles are involved and suggest basic postural corrections.

- Pranayama (Yogic Breathing)

Yogic philosophy and physiology regard the control of the breath as one of the prime means for achieving physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Pranayama, the fourth “limb” of yoga, is the science and art of establishing healthy breathing habits and the use of particular breathing techniques to facilitate a range of positive therapeutic outcomes. This module will train participants in the principles, practices and teaching of the more common pranayama techniques.

This module, from the Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teaching, will train you in the principles and practices of the more common relaxation and meditation techniques to facilitate the positive outcomes of yoga practice. Meditation is the seventh limb of yoga and the prime tool for establishing a calm, steady and clear state of mind.

- Yoga Classes for Special Needs

Yoga is a journey towards personal re-integration of body, breath, mind and spirit. A sound assessment of student needs along with planning and reviewing of teaching is essential to guide students safely and effectively. This module explores the therapeutic applications of yoga for common health conditions and areas of special needs that a teacher may encounter in regular yoga classes. It aims to train students on how to tailor appropriate practices and structure classes for groups of special needs and to develop their knowledge on the indications and contraindications of yoga practices relevant to common health conditions. It will also increase their awareness of the role of yoga in the health care industry, and on complementary scientific research into the efficacy of yoga practices.

- Yoga Teaching Methodology

This module focuses on the study and practice of teaching methodologies aimed at:
(i) Developing proficiency in structuring and sequencing of yoga classes to ensure best possible outcomes for students.
(ii) Building skills in creating a mutually respectful relationship between teacher and student, utilizing the principles of demonstration, observation, instruction, students learning styles, effective communication, assistance, corrections and adjustments.

- Yogic Ethics & Lifestyle Practices

A sound understanding of the concept of the mind and its relationship with the body and wellbeing is fundamental to achieving beneficial outcomes in yoga practice and teaching. This module will explore the Yamas and Niyamas which deal with appropriate mental attitudes and ethical behaviours as presented in the first two “limbs” of Patanjali Yoga Sutra. Their contemporary role and relevance in mental wellbeing and professional ethics is considered. The ‘mind’ from a yogic perspective and western approaches will also be reviewed.

- Yogic Philosophies

This unit provides an overview of the history and foundational understanding of the philosophy of Yoga which underlies the practices of Yoga. You will study the primary texts of Yoga, including Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Bhagavad Gita.

The Yogic understanding of physiology differs greatly from that of Western Science. The teaching of Yoga involves an integration of both paradigms and requires the Yoga teacher to carefully communicate this integration. This module provides a solid, foundational understanding of physiology, according to the tradition of Yoga.
